Bouchra Khalili's 'Between Circles and Constellations' Opens at MACBA

Moroccan-French artist Bouchra Khalili's solo exhibition 'Between Circles and Constellations' opens at MACBA in Barcelona, co-produced with the Sharjah Art Foundation. The show features the European premiere of her mixed-media installation 'The Circle' (2023), which explores the 1974 French presidential candidacy of an undocumented Maghrebi worker through oral poetry and performance. The work recently won the Sharjah Biennial 15 prize. Khalili's practice investigates belonging, community, and alternative forms of citizenship, often collaborating with marginalized groups. Her notable works include 'The Mapping Journey Project' (2008–11), an eight-channel video installation where illegal border crossers draw their routes on maps, and 'Foreign Office' (2015), a digital film about 1962–72 Algiers as a hub for Global South liberation movements. Khalili is a professor at Vienna's Angewandte University and a founding member of Cinémathèque de Tanger in Tangier.
