Bosco Sodi's Clay Wall Muro to be Dismantled by Public During London Art Night

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Mexican artist Bosco Sodi will create a temporary clay wall installation titled Muro at The National Theatre's riverside square on London's South Bank. The work consists of 1,600 bricks, each stamped with Sodi's signature and produced with local craftsmen at his Oaxaca studio. During Art Night on July 7, 2018, from 6pm onward, passers-by will be invited to dismantle the structure completely. This participatory performance represents Sodi's first public work in London, presented as part of Art Night's Open programme. A previous version was constructed in New York in September 2017, where visitors similarly removed pieces over a single day. Sodi describes Muro as a communal act demonstrating society's ability to overcome obstacles, whether physical, mental, or political. The project receives support from Blain|Southern. Art Night 2018 is a free contemporary arts festival curated by the Hayward Gallery, with additional events at Pump House Gallery, Gasworks, Zabludowicz Collection, and Newport Street Gallery.
