Bosch Masterpiece from Met to Return to Artist's Hometown

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Het Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch, Netherlands, will host a major loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: Hieronymus Bosch's 'The Adoration of the Magi,' one of only two surviving originals on this theme by the artist. The exhibition 'From Bosch's Stable. Hieronymus Bosch and The Adoration of the Magi' runs from December 1, 2018, to March 10, 2019. Director Charles de Mooij stated the museum aims to continue research on Bosch and bring him back to his birthplace, following the success of the 2016 Bosch show. The display also includes works by Bosch's followers from the British National Trust collections, including contemporaries like Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen, Martin Schongauer, and Lucas van Leyden, creating an immersive narrative experience.
