Borre Saethre's 'The End of BAMBI' at Galerie Loevenbruck and Frac Basse-Normandie

Borre Saethre's exhibition 'The End of BAMBI' was presented at Galerie Loevenbruck in Paris from November 12, 2005 to January 14, 2006, and simultaneously at Frac Basse-Normandie in Caen from November 23, 2005 to January 15, 2006. The cycle reimagines Felix Salten's 1929 novel 'Bambi, a Life in the Woods,' depicting Bambi in surreal and violent scenarios: sliding on a mirror, sleeping with Faline on a satin duvet, suspended on a wall, handcuffed and spread-eagled, and dead on the ground vomiting semi-precious stones. The installation includes two pear trees—one silver, one natural—and a satin duvet, creating a domesticated, artificial nature reminiscent of Disney and cinematic references to Kubrick and Tarkovsky. Saethre aims to provoke viewers into creating their own narratives, stating, 'I just want to push buttons in people's imaginations, trigger a process that is their own, unique.' The exhibition also features photographs that serve as jarring reminders of reality, including a bare buttock mooning the moon and a penis offered to a rabbit.
