Boris Mikhailov to Represent Ukraine at Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Photographer Boris Mikhailov will represent Ukraine at the 2017 Venice Biennale, following Belgium's selection of Dirk Braeckman. The exhibition, curated by Peter Doroshenko (former Pinchuk Art Centre, now director of Dallas Contemporary), will feature Mikhailov's ongoing series "Parliament," begun in 2014, which deconstructs images to address cyber-balkanization and media fragmentation. The Ukrainian pavilion will also include works by other Ukrainian artists, yet unnamed. Mikhailov, born in 1938, has documented Ukraine for over four decades, with a major retrospective of over 300 photographs held at CAMERA in Turin in 2015.
