Borghese Gallery Masterpieces to Exhibit at Musée Jacquemart-André During Renovation

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris will host an exhibition of 40 masterpieces from Rome's Galleria Borghese, titled "Masterpieces from the Borghese Gallery," from September 2024. The show coincides with the museum's reopening after extensive renovations that began in August 2023, including restoration of its double-helix staircase and Tiepolo fresco. Works by Botticelli, Titian, Raphael, Paolo Veronese, Antonello da Messina, Caravaggio, and Bernini will be displayed, alongside pieces by foreign artists active in Italy like Rubens and Gerrit Van Honthorst. The exhibition is curated by Francesca Cappelletti, director of the Galleria Borghese, and Pierre Curie, curator of the Musée Jacquemart-André since 2016. This collaboration supports the Borghese Gallery's own reinstallation campaign in autumn 2024. The museum, housed in the historic palazzo built by architect Henri Parent for banker Edouard André and his wife Nélie Jacquemart, holds the largest collection of Italian art in France after the Louvre, featuring Renaissance masters and Venetian 18th-century vedute. Donated to the Institut de France in 1912, it is classified as a French Monument Historique.
