Bordowitz and Ligon in Conversation at Whitney Museum
On Monday 30 April 2018, Gregg Bordowitz and Glenn Ligon will hold a public talk at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Bordowitz will discuss his recently published One Work book on Ligon's iconic 1988 piece Untitled (I Am a Man), examining its relevance to representations of self, race, and gender. The book situates the work within a history that includes the 1968 African-American sanitation workers' strike in Memphis, Tennessee, Sojourner Truth's 1851 speech 'Ain't I A Woman?', and Bo Diddley's 1955 song 'I'm a Man'. Tickets are $10 ($8 for members and concessions). After the event, copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by both Bordowitz and Ligon. The event is produced in collaboration with the Whitney Museum and is part of the One Work publication series, distributed by The MIT Press.
