BOOMing Contemporary Art Show Debuts in Bologna's DumBO Space

A new contemporary art fair, BOOMing Contemporary Art Show, will launch in Bologna from January 23 to 26, 2020, during the city's art week coinciding with Arte Fiera. Directed by art critic and curator Simona Gavioli, former co-founder and director of SetUp, the fair redefines the concept of "emerging" in art. Unlike SetUp, which focused on artists under 35, BOOMing emphasizes conceptual urgency over age, inviting galleries to present artists whose projects address urgent contemporary themes. The first edition's Main Section and Solo Show focus on environmental emergency and feminisms, with artists asked to share their personal visions of women. The fair is held at DumBO, a former railway yard transformed into a cultural district spanning 40,000 square meters, exemplifying urban regeneration. Gavioli noted that DumBO, located near MAMbo and the train station, is ideal for the fair's theme of cultural emergence. The fair is organized in collaboration with Doc Creativity, part of the Doc cooperative network in Italy's art and culture sector.
