Boogie's Street Photography Explores Naples, Brooklyn, and Kingston
The exhibition 'Blow your Mind' by photographer Boogie (born Vladimir Milivojevich in Belgrade) is on view at Magazzini Fotografici in Naples until April 1, 2017. Curated by Magazzini Fotografici, the show is housed in the former Ines handbag factory. Boogie arrived in New York in 1998 after winning a Green Card lottery, bringing a camera as therapy for the trauma of the Balkan wars. The exhibition opens with black-and-white shots of Brooklyn suburbs, depicting empty landscapes, identical buildings, rats hanging from lampposts, and figures with guns. A second series, 'Wah do dem,' shifts to color photographs of Kingston, Jamaica, showing shacks, barbed wire, and a faded Bob Marley mural. The images convey a brutal reality of weapons and poverty, far from glossy tourism.
