Bonhams to Auction David R. Godine's Landmark Rare Book Collection in New York

This spring and fall, Bonhams will host three auctions in New York featuring the unique book collection of independent publisher David R. Godine. Entitled Printing and Process: the David Godine Collection, it includes early printed works such as Venetian and Florentine editions, fine bindings with notable provenance, and remarkable items like the 1896 Kelmscott Chaucer. For fifty years, Godine led the Godine Press, cultivating a profound appreciation for the art of bookmaking, encompassing typography, illustrated book creation, and construction techniques. His New England-based press is celebrated for its diverse, carefully curated, and elegantly designed publications. This collection underscores his significance in the realm of American independent publishing.
