Bonhams Paris Greek Sale Achieves Strong Results with Tsarouchis and Moralis Works

At Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr's Greek Sale in Paris on 19 November, Yiannis Tsarouchis's painting 'Policier militaire avec des feuilles de palmier et des drapeaux' (Military policeman with palm leaves and flags) from a private Athenian collection sold for €508,400, surpassing its €400,000 to 600,000 estimate. This large-scale work, blending ancient and modern elements, was a top lot. Another highlight, Yiannis Moralis's acrylic on canvas 'Epithalamion' from 1971, fetched €381,400 against a €200,000 to 300,000 estimate. Exhibited in Athens in 1972, Moralis's piece transforms human figures into monumental forms inspired by ancient nuptial songs. The sale featured significant Greek modernist art, with Tsarouchis's work noted for its intimate yet monumental quality.
