Bonhams Paris Classics Auction Hits €2M with Aivazovsky and Meissen Porcelain
On April 21 and 22, Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr held its Classics auction series in Paris, raking in an impressive €1,996,176 from two live events. The first day focused on Old Master and 19th Century Paintings, while the next day highlighted a Private Asian Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain from East Asia, featuring pieces connected to Augustus the Strong, who was both the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. This auction was unique as it was the first time a private Asian collection of European porcelain was sold. Significant sales were achieved for both the Meissen porcelain and the Old Master artworks, particularly with contributions from Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, who lived from 1817 to 1900.
