Bonhams New York Auction Sets World Record for Philip and Kelvin LaVerne
A world auction record was achieved for works by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne at Bonhams' New York Modern: The Evan Lobel Collection sale on March 4. The event marked the inaugural live auction at Bonhams' new U.S. flagship location at 111 West 57th Street in New York. The sale featured pieces collected over three decades by New York gallerist Evan Lobel, who championed these artists at Lobel Modern. Among the prominent designers and artists represented were Karl Springer, Paul Evans, and Andy Warhol. Two exceptional sideboards by the father-son artistic duo Philip and Kelvin LaVerne led the auction's strong results. Overall, the sale surpassed presale expectations, achieving a total of $1.7 million with 83% of lots sold. The Bathers cabinet was one of the standout works by the LaVernes that contributed to the record-setting performance.
