market-auction · 2026-04-20

On 25 November, Bonhams will conduct a live auction for Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art at its New Bond Street venue in London. A unique section titled Judhoor, showcasing Saudi modern art, will be featured for the first time at an international auction house. Among the highlights are four notable pieces by Iraqi modernist Mahmoud Sabri (1927-2012), sourced directly from his estate. Sabri was a founding figure of the prominent Baghdad Group for Modern Art. This auction follows the success of Bonhams' recent exhibition, Judhoor/Roots: The Origins of Saudi Modernism, held in Riyadh. The collection includes works from early Saudi pioneers to artists active in the 1980s and later, as well as pieces by a 2025 Turner Prize nominee, underscoring Bonhams' commitment to showcasing regional artistic richness.
