Bonhams Launches First Saudi Exhibition of Modernist Art in Riyadh

Bonhams has initiated its inaugural project in Saudi Arabia with the exhibition titled Judhoor / Roots: The Origins of Saudi Modernism, which will take place from October 8 to 10 at LIFT Gallery located in Riyadh's JAX District, a venue owned by HRH Princess Nouf bint Abdulaziz Al Saud. This exhibition showcases pieces from artists such as Abdulhalim Radwi, Abdulrahman Al Soliman, and Safeya Binzagr, the latter being featured for the first time by an auction house. Noteworthy pieces include Bakr Sheikhoun's Portrait of a Woman and archival materials from Dar Al-Fnoon. A discussion panel, moderated by Fadia Antar, is scheduled at Maison Assoulie. Nima Sagharchi emphasizes that this is the Kingdom's first auction-house curated exhibition of local modern art. The artworks will subsequently head to London for Bonhams' auction in November.
