Bolzano Danza Festival 2025: New Direction and International Lineup
The 2025 edition of Bolzano Danza Festival marked the debut of artistic directors Anouk Aspisi and Olivier Dubois, running from July 18 to August 1. The festival opened with 'Insurrezione', the first chapter of a three-year project on 'passion'. The program featured an international lineup including Italian duo Panzetti/Ticconi, Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, and Dutch-Surinamese artist Cherish Menzo. Panzetti/Ticconi presented two works: 'AeReA' outdoors and 'Ara! Ara!' indoors, both exploring flag-waving folklore from Arezzo, with 'Ara! Ara!' using a parrot as a heraldic symbol to critique power and blind repetition. Lia Rodrigues's 'Encantado' used over 140 recycled blankets from Brazilian markets to create a carnivalesque performance about freedom and social constraints. Cherish Menzo's 'Darkmatter', with Camilo Mejía Cortés, blended dance, live rap, and visual art to depict a dystopian world, aiming to shift audience perspective on neglected realities.
