Bologna to Open Museum of Public Housing in Bolognina

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

In Bologna's Bolognina district, a new museum focused on public housing, named MUCAP (Museo della Casa Popolare), is set to open. This initiative, led by architects Renato Righi and Valerio Poltrini from Studio Nebbia, aims to transform the old firemen's warehouse of the Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari into a museum and archive. The redevelopment will also enhance residential courtyards and establish a multifunctional public area. Visitors will enter from Via Di Vincenzo, which will feature a spacious exhibition zone and an underground archive. The project, backed by around 1.6 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, is required to be completed by June 2023, with construction expected to wrap up by spring 2026. Deputy Mayor Emily Clancy is in favor of the project.
