Bologna schoolchildren create street posters teaching antifascism through Cheap Festival

In December 2019, Bologna's Cheap – Street Poster Art Festival unveiled a fresh collection of posters crafted by middle school students, not professional artists, as part of the 'Staffette Partigiane' educational initiative. The artwork was created by classes 2°R and 2°A from Fabio Besta secondary school and class 2°F from Guido Reni secondary school. This project, co-promoted by Cheap, seeks to educate youth about the Italian Resistance and antifascism, emphasizing the contributions of women partisans. Supported by various organizations including Regione Emilia Romagna and Comune di Bologna, the initiative featured months of workshops led by cartoonist Federico Manzone. A comic strip exhibition showcasing the students' work will take place at Istituto Storico Parri and Museo della Resistenza from December 19, 2019, to February 24, 2020. The project references a 1965 interview with filmmaker Liliana Cavani, highlighting the neglect of the Resistance in Italian education.
