Bologna's 'Salotto Verde' Opens at DUMBO Urban Regeneration Hub

A new public space called 'Salotto Verde' has been inaugurated in Bologna, Italy, as part of the Costellazioni project by Negroni Salumi. The 900-square-meter area, designed by under-35 architects Elisabetta Pettazzoni, Carlotta Trippa, and Chiara Troisi, is located within DUMBO (Distretto Urbano Multifunzionale), a temporary urban regeneration hub in the former Ravone railway yard. The space features a bocce court, ping-pong tables, an arena for events, a relaxation zone, and a photochromic mural that reduces nitrogen oxides. Plantings include trees, herbs, and flowers to support bees in DUMBO's apiaries. The project was selected through a call for ideas and aims to foster community, sustainability, and intergenerational use. DUMBO, owned by FS Sistemi Urbani and managed by Open Event since 2019, hosts creative studios, labs, and startups. Claudia Ferrari of Negroni Salumi emphasized the space's potential for aggregation, while Andrea Giotti of Open Event called it emblematic of the district's values. The initiative follows earlier Costellazioni interventions: an eco-mural in Aielli and one at Rome's Pietralata metro station.
