Bologna Celebrates 50 Years of Pimpa with Exhibition and Events

The beloved Italian comic strip and cartoon character Pimpa, created by Francesco Tullio-Altan in 1975, turns 50. Bologna marks the anniversary with a major exhibition at Biblioteca Salaborsa from March 30 to May 24, 2025. Titled 'Buon compleanno Pimpa,' the show is organized by Franco Cosimo Panini Editore and the Comune di Bologna, curated with Hamelin, Francesca Tullio-Altan, Anna Ferri, and Quipos. It features three sections with original panels, critical insights, and interactive installations, including a replica of Pimpa's house. A special 'Pimpa off' section examines the character's evolution as a symbol of freedom and inclusivity. On March 30, Altan will meet the public at Cinema Modernissimo, screening cartoons and later dialoguing with cartoonists Ratigher, Noemi Vola, and Maicol & Mirco. The anniversary also sees the publication of 'Pimpa. 50 storie a fumetti' and a reprint of the first Pimpa book, 'Arriva la Pimpa' (originally 1983), by Franco Cosimo Panini.
