Bologna art students restore city's UNESCO porticoes

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The fourth installment of 'Tre istituzioni e un patrimonio' in Emilia Romagna revives the partnership between the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and local institutions. This 2022-2023 edition highlights the Progetto Portici, in collaboration with the Comune di Bologna, which had its porticoes designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2021. More than 50 students will engage in five sites focused on restoration and communication, including the wooden portico of Palazzo Grassi and a section on via delle Belle Arti. Under the guidance of a professional restorer, they will also remove graffiti in accordance with Comune regulations. Additionally, the Panfili drawings will be restored for an exhibition. The project, which includes a multimedia educational component, is supported by €20,000 from the Regione Emilia Romagna.
