Bolivia to Occupy Russia's Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2024

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Russia Pavilion at the 2024 Venice Biennale, which has been closed since March 2022 due to the invasion of Ukraine, is set to reopen for a collective exhibition from Bolivia. This move underscores the amicable ties between Russia and Bolivia, highlighted by $1.4 billion in collaborative lithium projects and the establishment of a nuclear research center by Rosatom. Bolivia maintains a neutral stance regarding the Ukraine conflict. The exhibition, named "Qhip Nayra Uñtasis Sarnaqapxañani," is in line with curator Adriano Pedrosa's theme "Stranieri Ovunque" and showcases more than twenty indigenous artists. It is curated by Esperanza Guevara, Bolivia's Minister of Cultures, with Juan Carlos Cordero Nina serving as commissioner, aiming to highlight multiculturalism and the impact of Inca heritage on modern art.
