Boccaccio Boccaccino's Four Paintings on View at Brera's Dialogues Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The 11th installment of the Dialogues series at Brera showcases four pieces linked to Boccaccio Boccaccino (1462 – 1525) at Milan's Pinacoteca di Brera. Featured are the museum's Madonna with Child (1502-1503) alongside two pieces loaned from Museo Correr and another from Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, all created around 1500. Curator Andrea Bellieni refers to Boccaccino as a "frontier artist." After his training in Bologna and Ferrara, he relocated to Milan, faced imprisonment, and eventually served as the court painter for the Duke of Este. The exhibition emphasizes Boccaccino's influences from Bellini and Giorgione, particularly highlighting the artistic developments at the turn of the century.
