Boca Raton Estate Redesign Blends Chinese Art History with Tropical Bird Motifs

Lisa and Steven Denholtz, a couple with a passion for Chinese art history and tropical birds, have completed a 12-month, $2 million renovation of their 5,700-square-foot home in the Addison Estates neighborhood of Boca Raton, Florida. The project, executed with Errez Design, embraces a 'biographical design' approach, reflecting the couple's life experiences and interests. The interior features a crimson red hue inspired by Qing Dynasty lacquer work, an antique eight-panel coromandel screen in the kitchen, and a hand-painted chinoiserie-style gold-leaf mural by English artist Grahame Ménage in the dining room. The living room includes a custom rug that reimagines a traditional Asian pattern with Florida herons, and a guest bathroom is adorned with avian-themed wallpaper. The primary suite incorporates an antique Asian daybed repurposed as a dog cushion. Additional highlights include a tropical guest suite with red palm-frond wallpaper, a bunk room with globe-patterned wallcoverings, and a media room with green cabinetry and curved niches. Outside, lion statues surround the pool, and Chippendale-style faux-bamboo chairs furnish the outdoor dining area. The home overlooks the fairways of The Boca Raton golf course.
