Bob Ross Paintings Set Auction Records at Bonhams Sale, Raising $662,000 for Public Television

Three original paintings by Bob Ross sold for a combined $662,000 at Bonhams' California & Western Art sale in Los Angeles on November 11. Winter's Peace from 1993 led the group with a $318,000 sale, establishing a new global auction record for the artist that more than doubled the previous benchmark. Home in the Valley, also painted in 1993 during a television broadcast, fetched $229,100, exceeding its high estimate by over four times. The third work in the trio contributed to the total. American Public Television offered the paintings and will direct net proceeds to support public television stations nationwide. The auction generated exceptional interest, with 356 bidders participating across various channels and hundreds of registrations—more than double the typical number for such sales. All three works saw spirited competition during the landmark event.
