other · 2026-04-24

BBC Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris, 80, announced on Instagram that his prostate cancer has spread to his upper spine, causing excruciating back pain. After scans revealed the metastasis, he underwent a two-week course of radiotherapy in hospital, which brought the condition under control. Now home, he is on a rehab program and feeling stronger daily. Harris thanked his family for support and praised Radio 2 as "supportive beyond words." He hopes to return to his shows, The Country Show and Sounds of the 70s, in May. In his absence, Darius Rucker and Shaun Keaveny have been hosting. The station celebrated his 80th birthday with a pre-recorded conversation with Zoe Ball. Colleagues Trevor Nelson, Lauren Laverne, and Keaveny sent well wishes. Harris has been with the BBC for over five decades, previously hosting The Old Grey Whistle Test and programs on BBC Radio Oxford and Radio 1.
