Bob Baker Marionette Theater's Puppet Prom Raises $100,000 for Capital Campaign

On March 22, 2025, the Garibaldina Society in Los Angeles hosted its third annual Puppet Prom to raise funds for the Bob Baker Marionette Theater (BBMT), successfully bringing in $100,000 for the 'In LA to Stay' campaign, which aims to gather $7 million overall. Actor John C. Reilly served as the puppet master of ceremonies, entertaining the crowd with performances alongside singer Sierra Ferrell and the California Feet Warmers. DJ Kindness also kept the energy high. Launched just two weeks prior, the campaign is focused on acquiring BBMT's Highland Park location for $5 million, plus $2 million for renovations. Notable backers include Wallis Annenberg and actor Jack Black. Co-executive director Mary Fagot and artistic director Alex Evans have been steering the nonprofit since 2023, and they initiated this unique prom as a fundraising effort. BBMT, founded in 1963 by Bob Baker, moved to its current location after his death in 2014. Their upcoming show, 'Choo Choo Revue,' will be their first new production in 40 years. BBMT even performed at Coachella, with Ben Platt covering Addison Rae’s 'Diet Pepsi.' The Garibaldina Society, the oldest Italian society in the U.S., has graciously allowed its venue for this annual event. Fagot shared her optimism for the future of the theater.
