bn+ BRINANOVARA's First Solo Show at Spazio In Situ, Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The duo bn+ BRINANOVARA (Giorgio Brina and Simone Novara) presents 'Hadal Zone', their first solo exhibition at Spazio In Situ in Rome, curated by Valentina Muzi. The show features paintings and photosensitive object-elements that draw from Mannerist masterpieces by Parmigianino, Bronzino, and Rosso Fiorentino. The works depict fragmented images—silken folds of sleeves, mineral-like faces—emerging from a uniform black background, alluding to incomplete bodies and characters. The title 'Hadal Zone' refers to the ocean's deepest trenches (6,000–11,000 meters), where no light penetrates and pressure is extreme. Similarly, the dark canvases evoke hidden recesses of the mind, with figures appearing incomplete yet vivid, animated by a nocturnal phosphorescence that activates the photosensitive objects in darkness. The project engages with Nicolas Bourriaud's question of what to create anew and what to do with existing material, using the 'beautiful manner' as a historically selective process. The exhibition was held in 2020.
