BMW heiress Susanne Klatten launches nature-focused art foundation in Bavarian farm setting

institutional · 2026-04-20

In Nantesbuch, Bavaria, Susanne Klatten, a prominent German art collector and a major BMW shareholder, is establishing Stiftung Nantesbuch. The foundation's goal is to transform two abandoned farms into exhibition spaces that will harmonize with the surrounding natural environment. The first events will feature guided walks led by artists and botanists. Klatten plans to showcase her impressive personal collection of about 600 pieces, which explore microcosm and macrocosm themes, as well as connections to plants, animals, and humanity, in a new building that's still being built. Notable artists like Michael Beutler, Olaf Holzapfel, and Anselm Kiefer will be involved. This initiative, reflecting her love for nature, was noted by the art magazine Monopol in June 2017.
