Bluesky's Attie AI assistant gains open-ended research capabilities

Launched in March, Bluesky's AI assistant Attie is transitioning from a programming-free tool for creating personalized social feeds to a versatile research instrument. The introduction of a feature named Quests enables users to request information and news circulating within the broader Bluesky social network, referred to as the Atmosphere. This encompasses not only Bluesky but also any applications that utilize the AT Protocol. Users can inquire about trending subjects or discover key accounts in various domains or regions. After experiencing rapid growth to 40 million users last October, Bluesky's user count has now reached approximately 45.6 million. The company is exploring ways to expand its user base and monetize the platform. Attie is currently free, though monetization has been contemplated. Jay Graber, Bluesky’s chief innovation officer who resigned as CEO in March, emphasized that Attie aims to help users navigate the internet and combat misinformation. The AI assistant is undergoing a redesign to enhance accessibility and features a new logo. The updated Attie experience is currently in beta, with selected users from a waitlist. In 2025, Bluesky secured $100 million in funding, allowing for initiatives like Attie, premium subscriptions, and tools for advanced users.
