Block-Experiments in Cosmococa Book Launch at São Paulo Art Fair

publication · 2026-04-22

On 5 April 2013, CAPACETE hosted the São Paulo launch of 'Hélio Oiticica and Neville D’Almeida, Block-Experiments in Cosmococa' at the São Paulo International Art Fair. Co-author Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz was present. The book, co-authored by Hinderer Cruz and Sabeth Buchmann, is part of Afterall's One Work series. It examines the influence of the New York underground, Brazilian avant-garde cinema, concrete poetry, and writings by Marshall McLuhan and Henri Bergson on Oiticica's Cosmococas. The analysis focuses on the work's experimentation with duration and its blurring of formats, languages, and spectatorship, suggesting it forms the basis for an investigation of media theory in art. The launch took place at the CAPACETE stand in Pavilhão Ciccillo Matarazzo, Parque do Ibirapuera, Portão 3, São Paulo, with free admission.
