Blitz Valletta Launches Online Exhibition Eye of the Storm
In 2013, Alexandra Pace established Blitz Valletta, a non-profit contemporary art center in Malta. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has introduced an online initiative called OPEN. Drawing from Umberto Eco's 1962 notion of the 'open work,' OPEN delves into experimental, processual, and social art practices pertinent to a time marked by physical distancing and heavy media consumption. The platform features a section for children's activities and an online exhibition series. The first exhibit, Eye of the Storm, curated by Sara Dolfi Agostini, is ongoing until December 31, 2020, showcasing video pieces by seven global artists. The initial work, The Stroker by Pilvi Takala, was created during her residency at Second Home in London and employs future anterior tense to frame past actions with future conclusions.
