Blanton Museum Appoints Claudia Zapata as Inaugural Latino Art Curator

Claudia Zapata has been appointed the first associate curator of Latino art at the Blanton Museum of Art, part of the University of Texas at Austin. This role is part of a broader effort initiated in February to enhance the museum's dedication to Latino art, which includes adding 5,650 new pieces and establishing two gallery spaces. Zapata will commence her position in July after completing her postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA. Her past curatorial accomplishments include the exhibition '¡Printing the Revolution!' at the Smithsonian and previous work at Mexic-Arte Museum, where she showcased numerous notable artists. She obtained her PhD in art history in 2022 from Southern Methodist University.
