Blank On Blank: Kurt Cobain's Last Interview Animated

The non-profit organization Quoted, based in New York, has produced an animated short featuring Kurt Cobain's final interview, conducted by Jon Savage on July 22, 1993. The interview was originally published in Guitar World in 1997 and partially recovered by Blank On Blank, a series by Quoted. The five-minute video, created by executive producer David Gerlach, animator Patrick Smith, and audio technician Amy Drozdowska, uses Smith's graphic style to depict Cobain discussing his childhood trauma, the divorce of his parents, his struggles with fame, and his physical ailments. Cobain expressed optimism about his mental and physical state, saying he felt better since marrying Courtney Love and having his daughter Frances. The interview was recorded on magnetic tape and later distributed via podcast, SoundCloud, and radio through PRX. Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994, at age 27. Quoted has produced 27 episodes, garnering 4 million views and 10 million minutes watched, with 43,000 subscribers on YouTube.
