BKSK Architects' The Village West: Red Brick and Terra-Cotta on 14th Street

architecture-design · 2026-05-08

BKSK Architects has completed The Village West, a new residential building at 14th Street and Sixth Avenue in New York City. Drawing inspiration from Greenwich Village's architectural style, the structure features red brick and iron-spot glazed terra-cotta. Its façade is divided into three distinct parts: a ground-level storefront made of glazed terra-cotta, brick piers with recesses, and a decorative cornice crafted from terra-cotta at the top. David Kubik, a partner at BKSK, emphasized the importance of creating depth and shadow. Project architect Joe Vivino discussed the difficulties in coordinating the different masonry materials. The design team also includes landscape architect Liz Pulver and interior designers Paolo Agostinelli and Gerry Ende, alongside structural engineers from DeSimone Consulting Engineers.
