Bjørn Okholm Skaarup's Zoodiac Bronze Sculptures at Four Seasons Florence
Danish artist Bjørn Okholm Skaarup, who earned a PhD in Florence, installed his latest bronze sculpture series Zoodiac – Il ciclo dello Zodiaco last summer in the garden of the Four Seasons Hotel in Florence. The twelve zoomorphic bronzes reinterpret Western zodiac signs with a light, accessible approach. Skaarup cited Ai Weiwei's Chinese zodiac as inspiration, aiming to retell forgotten constellation stories. The Greek term "ζoδιακός Κύκλος" means "circle of small animals"; the zodiac's origins are Babylonian or older, but the twelve constellations survive from ancient Greek mythology. The video was produced by Videoartevirale Firenze, directed by Duccio Ricciardelli, and edited by Marco Bartolini.
