Björk's AI Sound Installation 'Nature Manifesto' at Centre Pompidou

exhibition · 2026-04-26

From November 20 to December 9, 2024, the Centre Pompidou in Paris will host 'Nature Manifesto', an immersive sound installation by Björk and Aleph Molinari. Created in collaboration with IRCAM, the piece uses artificial intelligence software to recreate sounds of extinct or endangered animals. The installation is part of the forum 'Biodiversity: Which culture for which future?' and aims to raise awareness about environmental fragility. Curated by Molinari and Chloé Siganos, the project also involved French and Icelandic environmental activists. Multimedia artist Sam Balfua created videos featuring mutant peacocks, bees, and lemurs, blending Björk's voice with animal calls. The installation occupies the museum's escalator, known as the 'caterpillar', bridging industrial architecture and nature. Björk and Molinari describe it as a 'Nature Manifesto' giving voice to endangered creatures and reminding citizens of their vitality.
