Bjarke Ingels Launches Crowdfunding for Giant Mirror Sphere at Burning Man

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, alongside colleague Jakob Lange, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to realize 'The Orb', a colossal inflatable mirror sphere designed for the annual Burning Man festival in Nevada. The installation, suspended from a steel truss, aims to pay homage to the Earth with a 1:500,000 scale representation. During the day, its mirrored surface will reflect the daily life of the international community gathering in the Black Rock Desert from August 26 to September 3. At night, the sphere will be partially illuminated, helping the expected 70,000 burners navigate the Playa. The campaign seeks to raise $50,000 over two months. Ingels is also expected in Umbria for Universo Assisi 2018 and is shortlisted with the Lego House in Billund for World Interior of the Year 2018.
