Bjarke Ingels Group reveals Nashville performing arts center with undulating aluminum facade

architecture-design · 2026-04-17

The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has unveiled its design for the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) in Nashville, Tennessee. Covering 307,000 square feet, this facility will sit on the East Bank of the Cumberland River, near the end of Broadway, bridging downtown with future developments. The building's design showcases a striking facade of aluminum tubes that filters light and offers scenic views, reminiscent of 'organ pipes or steel chimes,' according to lead architect Bjarke Ingels, celebrating Nashville's musical roots. The entrance features shaded areas, welcoming visitors from various paths, including a bridge. Inside, a multi-level lobby with wooden accents connects four performance venues, including the Grand Broadway theater and a cabaret space. Ingels envisions this as 'an urban and cultural connection' that fosters community.
