Bjarke Ingels Breaks Ground on Sanpellegrino's Future Factory in Italy

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

Bjarke Ingels has arrived in Italy to inaugurate the groundbreaking of Sanpellegrino's 'Fabbrica del Futuro,' a 17,500-square-meter industrial facility situated in Val Brembana. This project, which BIG secured in February 2017, outperformed competitors such as MVRDV, Snøhetta, and Michele De Lucchi. With an investment of €90 million, the factory-village is designed to enhance cultural heritage while focusing on sustainability and efficiency, with completion anticipated in 2022. Drawing inspiration from the Brembo River and the surrounding mountains, the design harmoniously blends modern features with traditional Italian styles. It will feature a multifunctional piazza, offices, a gym, and an Experience Lab. Ingels referred to it as a 'temple celebrating the quality of water.' Additionally, on October 4, the Copenhill ski slope in Copenhagen will open.
