Biscozzi-Rimbaud Foundation Opens in Lecce with 200-Work Collection

institutional · 2026-04-27

The Fondazione Biscozzi-Rimbaud opens March 2 in Lecce, Italy, housed in a restored historic palazzo. The collection, amassed over 40 years by tax consultant Luigi Biscozzi and his wife Dominique Rimbaud, features over 200 works focusing on abstraction, informal art, and analytical painting. Director Paolo Bolpagni curated the inaugural display of about 70 works, arranged chronologically and by style, from early modern to kinetic and analytical painting. Highlights include pieces by Arturo Martini, Filippo de Pisis, Luigi Veronesi, and a small Licini painting that was the first hung. The foundation also includes a library and educational lab, aiming to engage local schools and associations. The architecture firm Fabrizio e Marco Arrigoni handled the restoration with a 'scarpiano' approach, respecting the local Lecce stone. The collection is unique in Puglia for its focus on Italian and European avant-gardes, including lesser-known artists like Rodolfo Aricò, Kengiro Azuma, and Salvatore Sava.
