Birga Beer Packaging Uses Bold Typography for Central Asian Market
FCB Artgroup Tbilisi designed packaging for Birga beer that relies on bold typography rather than illustration to reposition the brand for a Central Asian market where consumer culture is still developing. The 'B' letterform occupies roughly 70% of the label height, functioning as both background texture and brand amplifier. Each flavor uses a distinct two-color palette—cobalt blue and cream for Light Lager, yellow-green for Lemon—but the typographic structure remains consistent: 'INTERNATIONAL QUALITY' arcs at the top, a flavor pill sits below, and 'BIRGA' appears in wide-tracked white caps at the base. The only departure from this geometry is the 4-pack carrier, which features a hand-drawn dancing cat illustration printed full-bleed behind the type. This contrast allows the bold typography to make the brand argument while the cat gives permission. FCB Artgroup Tbilisi intentionally avoided letting illustration carry the weight of repositioning the entire category.
