Binna Choi to Curate Korean Pavilion at 61st Venice Biennale with Artists Goen Choi and Hyeree Ro

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Binna Choi has been named the curator for the Korean Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale by the Arts Council Korea (ARKO), showcasing artists Goen Choi and Hyeree Ro. With two decades of expertise, Choi previously co-curated the 2025 Hawaiʻi Triennial and led the Casco Art Institute from 2008 until 2023. Her vision for the pavilion is to serve as both a 'fortress' and 'nest,' reflecting on social divisions following South Korea's political crisis in 2024 and drawing inspiration from Haebang konggan. Goen Choi, honored with the 2024 Frieze Seoul Artist Award, utilizes repurposed materials for his installations, while Hyeree Ro, a recipient of the 2023 Rema Hort Mann Foundation grant, creates works influenced by her experiences as a migrant. The exhibition will also include diverse voices to foster dialogue.
