Billy Tang Departs Para Site After Three Years as Executive Director

Billy Tang has stepped down as executive director and curator of Para Site, a leading independent nonprofit art institution in Hong Kong, with his term ending on May 30, 2025. He began his tenure in May 2022, succeeding Cosmin Costinas, who enhanced the organization's international standing from 2011 to 2022. Prior to this, Tang was the senior curator at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai from 2019 to 2022 and served as curatorial director at Beijing's Magician Space from 2013 to 2018. At Para Site, he curated notable exhibitions like "Art Labor: Cloud Chamber" and "Aki Sasamoto: Sounding Lines" in 2024, as well as "Enzo Camacho & Ami Lien: Offerings for Escalante" in 2023. He also oversaw the expansion of the venue in 2023, launching an annex 12 floors below the main exhibition space in Quarry Bay. His concluding project is a solo exhibition by Bangkok-based conceptual artist Pratchaya Phinthong, set to debut in September 2025. In his farewell message, Tang expressed his appreciation, stating it was a privilege to lead the organization and thanked collaborators and supporters. Para Site has appointed deputy director Junni Chen as interim director while the Board seeks a new permanent leader.
