Bill Lynch's Dionysian Paintings on Found Wood Revealed in Brighton Exhibition
The CCA in Brighton is showcasing an exhibition called 'The Exile of Dionysus,' featuring the unique, organic creations of Bill Lynch, an underappreciated artist who passed away in 2013 at fifty. Lynch transformed discarded plywood, expertly weaving its natural textures into his floral designs. Among his key pieces are 'No title [White Blossoms]' with its green stems and peach swirls, and 'No title [Snow and Birds],' which captures a winter scene with a hidden owl across five slender planks. Another striking work, 'Still Life with Milkweed Seed,' depicts a vibrant pomegranate. Lynch’s friend, Verne Dawson, shared that he often enjoyed Olde English 800 malt beer and marijuana while creating. The exhibition runs until October 15.
