Big Difference Company, Organizer of Leicester Comedy Festival, Ceases Trading

The Big Difference Company, which organized the Leicester Comedy Festival, has gone out of business due to insolvency. The directors attributed this to "rising costs, a challenging funding landscape, and considerable stress within the live comedy industry." Established in 1994, the festival had been a significant part of Leicester's cultural scene for more than thirty years. Financial difficulties were reported to the Charity Commission, and in May, numerous comedians did not receive payment following the 2026 festival. An arts venue was repossessed in July due to unpaid debts. Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby and Leicester City Council plan to facilitate an interim comedy festival in 2027. The Live Comedy Association has initiated a crowdfunding effort to assist those impacted. Former co-founder Geoff Rowe remains optimistic about the festival's future.
