Biennale Gherdëina 10 Explores Garden as Contested Space in the Dolomites

festival-fair · 2026-05-30

The Dolomites are set to host the 10th edition of Biennale Gherdëina, named 'The Garden of the Future,' featuring site-specific installations, exhibitions, and interventions. Curated by Samuel Leuenberger, this biennial explores the garden as a complex and debated space, divided into thematic sections such as 'Commoning,' 'Divine Love and Growth,' 'Violent Garden,' 'Queer Ecology,' 'Botanical,' and 'Gardens as Spaces for Reflection and Poetry,' while considering industrial and extractive influences. Notable artists include Chanelle Adams, Giulia Cenci, and others, with Jacopo Belloni's 'Dormancy' standing out as the winner of the 14th Italian Council 2025. The event strengthens its global ties through partnerships with Kaunas Biennial and Museion, which will present Evelyn Taocheng Wang's inaugural solo show in Italy. A special publication marks nearly 20 years of artistic innovation in the area. Established in 2008 by Doris Ghetta and organized by Associazione Zënza Sëida since 2019, Biennale Gherdëina has emerged as a unique contemporary art event within the Alpine region, connecting international research with local communities and the cultural heritage of the Dolomites.
