Biennale di Venezia Launches Online Activities Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

digital · 2026-04-27

Following the Italian government's decree on March 11 imposing nationwide restrictions to contain the coronavirus, the Biennale di Venezia has launched a digital initiative on its website and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). The project is divided into two thematic areas: one featuring materials from the Historical Archive, and another offering virtual educational activities for students. On social networks, the Biennale will publish archival videos and images documenting its past and recent history, including performances and live 'pillole' from Dance, Music, and Theatre, the Film Festival, and the Art Biennales documented artist by artist and work by work, as well as previews of the upcoming Architecture Biennale. The educational activities, available on the Biennale's website, target students, schools, universities, and families. They include projects such as 'Tutti in aula alla Biennale' (for primary schools), 'Imparando alla Biennale' (for primary and secondary schools), 'Danzando alla Biennale' (for all grades), and 'Con un click alla Biennale' (for families). These initiatives partly draw from the Carnevale dei Ragazzi and the Laboratori in Mostra. The 17th International Architecture Exhibition, originally scheduled for May, has been postponed to August.
