Biennale Democrazia 2017 expands to peripheral venues in Turin

The fifth edition of Biennale Democrazia returns to Turin from March 29 to April 2, 2017, with a program extending beyond the historic center to three new peripheral venues: Fondazione Merz, Scuola Holden, and Film Commission Torino Piemonte. The event, initiated by the City of Turin, features a new graphic identity by the artistic duo Botto e Bruno. The theme is "Uscite d'emergenza" (Emergency Exits). Fondazione Merz presents "Corpi attraverso i confini: memorie dell'Europa di oggi" on migration, curated by Melina Mulas and Luisa Passerini, with interviews, films, drawings, and photographs from Italy and the Netherlands. Film Commission Torino Piemonte hosts "Esodi e Conflitti, Il Diritto alla Speranza," contrasting Alessandro Bulgini and Gian Maria Tosatti's project on the Calais Jungle with photojournalism by Fabio Bucciarelli and Diego Ibarra Sánchez from conflict zones, plus documentaries by Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio on the Roma camp in Turin. Scuola Holden presents "Gangcity," an exhibition on urban gang cultures.
