Biennale and Salone del Mobile Overlap Sparks Crisis for Italian PR Agencies

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The coinciding dates of the Venice Biennale Arte (April 16-20) and Salone del Mobile (April 16-21), along with miart (April 12-14) and Vinitaly (April 14-17), have created a logistical and economic nightmare for Italian art and design PR agencies. Seven major firms—adicorbetta, ParideVitale, Lara Facco P&C, Casadorofungher, PCM Studio, Elena Pardini, and Ghénos Communication—report forced client rejections, skyrocketing costs for freelancers and materials, and an inability to cover both events properly. Veronica Ventrella (adicorbetta) notes lost job opportunities and limited press coverage due to advertiser demands. Paride Vitale calls the overlap "a huge fuck-up" that harms operators, public, and media. Lara Facco describes a "furious vortex" of inflated prices for setup and transport, with clients sourcing from Umbria, Campania, and France. Francesca Fungher and Elena Casadoro Kopp (Casadorofungher) had to abandon Milan projects. Paola Manfredi (PCM Studio) sees a "diabolical derby" against national cultural interests. Elena Pardini chose Design Week over Biennale, losing income. Gabriella Del Signore (Ghénos Communication) criticizes the lack of coordination and network-building among organizers. The consensus is that the scheduling reflects a myopic view of design as purely commercial, and a failure to treat culture as an industry.
